The Holston Baptist Association (HBA) is offering an 8-week paid summer internship for young adults who are discerning a call to vocational ministry. This internship is designed to provide broad, hands-on ministry experience while offering intentional discipleship, mentorship, and exposure to the work of local churches and ministry partners across East Tennessee.

Overview

HBA Summer Interns will serve alongside local Southern Baptist churches and partner ministries, assisting with a wide range of ministry activities throughout the summer. Interns will gain practical experience in church-based ministry, evangelism, and community outreach while receiving training and discipleship under the leadership of HBA staff.

This internship is ideal for 18-25 year old men and women who desire to explore or clarify a calling to vocational ministry, whether in pastoral ministry, missions, church staff roles, or para-church ministry.

Responsibilities

Intern responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with Vacation Bible Schools and children’s ministry

  • Supporting youth ministry activities and events

  • Participating in evangelism and community outreach

  • Helping with ministry event setup and logistics

  • Serving with inner-city ministry at the Johnson City Baptist Center

  • Participating in a mission trip, as opportunities allow

Interns rotate between churches, ministries, and events throughout the summer and should expect a variety of ministry contexts and assignments.

Schedule & Commitment

  • Interns should expect this internship to be their primary summer commitment.

  • Average workload is approximately 20–25 hours per week, though hours may vary significantly from week to week.

  • Assignments may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasional extended ministry days.

  • Weekly schedules will be provided no less than 21 days in advance.

Compensation & Requirements

  • Compensation: $250 weekly stipend, paid by check

  • Housing is not provided

  • Interns must have reliable transportation and be able to travel throughout East Tennessee (mileage is not reimbursed)

Qualifications

  • Must be a professing Christian and a member of a Southern Baptist–affiliated church (HBA churches preferred but not required)

  • Ability to articulate, or be actively discerning, a call to vocational ministry

  • Willingness to affirm and abide by a covenant

  • Prior ministry experience is helpful but not required

Principle Function:

The position of Director of Children and Family Ministries has as its
primary purpose the development of a comprehensive plan to minister to the children of First
Baptist Church and their families (PreK-5

General Functions:

2. Develop and pursue ongoing, authentic relationships with parents enabling effective

Responsibilities:

A. Sunday School and Preschool Extended Session

1. Work with the Associate Pastor of Administration and Education to:

• Enlist Preschool and Children’s Division Directors through the
Nominating Committee and assist the Division Directors in enlisting
teachers.

• Assure that the necessary literature, visual aids, equipment, resource
persons, and other materials are obtained and available to teachers as
needed for Sunday School and Extended Sessions.

2. Provide encouragement and guidance for teachers in the preschool and
children’s departments.

3. Plan, promote, supervise and evaluate the activities that will enhance the
effectiveness of the preschool, children and family ministries, and the transition to
the youth program.

4. Overall supervision of extended session teaching including the selecting of
suitable materials, training and scheduling for each age level.

B. Mission & Outreach Programs

1. Oversee VBS in planning, scheduling, enlisting and training teachers and
follow-up.

2. Work with RA’s and GA’s Director in planning and promoting RA’s, GA’s, and
Mission Friends.

C. Spiritual Discipleship and Training

1. Provide regular and systematic training for teachers

2. Plan and promote a year-round preschool/children’s program for both social
and spiritual growth that could include such activities as: day camps, special Bible
study, family retreats, fellowships, recreational activities, summer discipleship
training, etc.

3. Provide training for children who make professions of faith (ex. Children’s
New Member class).

4. Provide regular and systematic training for teachers.

D. Other Responsibilities

1. Prepare and submit an annual budget request for preschool and children’s
program activities to the Finance Committee and administer it.

2. Ensure that childcare is made available for church services and other special
events as deemed necessary by interviewing, screening and training for volunteers
and paid staff.

3. Comply with FBC Greeneville safety/security protocol and train volunteers to
implement upgrades as necessary in conjunction with the security committee.

Job Qualifications for Director of Children and Family Ministries

• Experience in Children’s Ministry: Previous experience leading or coordinating

children’s programs in a church or similar setting.

• Leadership Skills: Ability to supervise staff and volunteers, plan programs, and manage

budgets.

The Primary Mission Statement for the Part-Time Worship Leader is to lead and grow the worship ministry of Colonial Heights Baptist Church. We currently practice a blended worship style, led mainly by a praise band.

Position Requirements:

  • Recommended but not required to possess a degree in Worship Studies or a Secular music degree.
  • Prefer someone with at least two years’ experience in leading corporate worship.
  • Support and assist in developing and communicating the church’s vision and mission.
