The Associate Pastor of Youth and Families is responsible for overseeing children, youth, and families, which includes spiritual guidance, planning events, and fostering a faith-filled environment for young people. Key duties involve developing discipleship programs, recruiting and training adult and youth leaders, partnering with parents, and integrating youth into the broader church community.Time and focus would be allocated around 80% on youth and families and 20% to other areas of church ministries.Key Responsibilities:

  • Spiritual Formation: Provide spiritual guidance, biblical teaching, and pastoral counseling to youth, helping them grow in their faith.
  • Program Development: Develop innovative programs for all ages, with special attention to youth (sixth grade through college), that excite and encourage them to invite others in the community to participate. These programs should be biblically based and focused on fun and active ways of learning Christian principles. Design and lead engaging programs such as Bible studies, worship services, retreats, camps, and mission trips for youth.
  • Discipleship & Leadership: Recruit, train, and mentor both adult volunteers and youth leaders to help lead the ministry and disciple their peers.
  • Parent & Family Engagement: Build relationships with parents, equip them to be primary disciplers, and keep them informed about ministry events and strategies.
  • Community Integration: Facilitate the integration of youth into the larger church body, fostering a sense of belonging and encouraging intergenerational connections.
  • Administrative Duties: Create and manage the youth ministry budget, develop ministry vision, and ensure adherence to church policies, such as child safety protocols.
Weekly Duties:
  • Be an active presence in local schools, attending games and programs, and scheduling periodic visits to interact with students.
  • Plan summer activities to engage youth when school is on recess.
  • Participate in staff meetings and other church meetings.
  • Maintain Facebook, the church website, newsletter, and the weekly bulletin with accurate information about upcoming youth and student activities, and volunteer opportunities.

Annual duties:

  • Create and manage a Youth calendar that will drive all ministry activities and keep volunteers, parents, and youth informed.
  • Choose curriculum for each Student and Children’s Ministry program, coordinating with the Sunday School Director and Children’s Director as needed.
  • Develop and maintain annual budgets for Youth Ministries.
  • Work with the Senior Pastor to select qualified, Spirit-filled, active adults for the Youth Council. The Council will meet at least quarterly.

Ongoing duties:

  • Serve on Church Council.
  • Supervise appropriate church staff members and volunteers, Children’s Ministry, and Nursery.
  • Assist with hospital visitation and other pastoral duties, including baptism services, weddings, and funerals.
  • Preach in the absence of the senior pastor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

Skills and other requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited school or university.
  • A seminary Degree (preferred) OR previous full-time ministry experience.
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • A team player with good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and lead volunteer teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Literacy in Microsoft Office and social media such as Facebook and Instagram.
  • The ability to drive the church vans as needed.

Special Qualifications:

  • A vocational call to the Student and Children’s Ministry in a local church setting.
  • An active prayer and devotional life.
  • Upon acceptance of the position, church membership will be required.

Work Hours: 20 hours of office and preparation time are required each week. The remaining time each week is to be spent engaging youth and children at schools, games, events, or activities, as well as Sunday and Wednesday evening services.

Supervision: This position reports to the Senior Pastor. There is an expectation that the Associate Pastor of Youth and Families will establish and maintain a positive working relationship with the Senior Pastor, other staff members, and the church body, under the guidance of the Senior Pastor and with the encouragement of the Personnel Committee

.It is incumbent upon the individual in this position to cooperate with annual evaluations, which will be facilitated by the Senior Pastor and/or the Personnel Committee.

Expectations

The Music Director will:

  • Work with the Pastor and musicians to facilitate and support praise and worship.

  • Plan ahead to provide musicians and church secretary lists of songs in a timely manner allowing for practice and bulletin publication.
  • Plan and direct regular musical practices.

The Primary Mission Statement for the Part-Time Worship Leader is to lead and grow the worship ministry of Colonial Heights Baptist Church. We currently practice a blended worship style, led mainly by a praise band.

Position Requirements:

 

  • Recommended but not required to possess a degree in Worship Studies or a Secular music degree.
  • Prefer someone with at least two years’ experience in leading corporate worship.
  • Support and assist in developing and communicating the church’s vision and mission.
  • Continue to grow and mature as a Godly person of integrity.
  • Pursue being a Christ follower to model and mentor those in his/her charge, including receiving and participating in Christian accountability befitting the leadership role.
  • Knowledgeable in various styles of Baptist worship.
  • Proficient in relating Biblical Scripture and themes to worship services’ musical selections.
  • Possess the ability and personality to work effectively with people having varying degrees of musical ability in a patient, caring, guiding manner.
  • Possess practical teaching skills, leadership ability, motivational style, and a sense of creativity.
  • Satisfactory Report on Background Check required for this position.
  • Adheres to, and is committed to follow, the Baptist Faith and Message (2000) and the Constitution and Bylaws of Colonial Heights Baptist Church, and is willing to support the direction of the Southern Baptist Convention in accordance with Church Polity.
  • Must be available for Sunday services and planned practices, unless otherwise excused in advance.

 

Principle Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Start services on time, and work with the speaker to keep the service to a reasonable time.
  • Direct the worship band and other music ministries to establish a performance and practice schedule.
  • Express creativity in leading the creation and implementation of new worship opportunities that align with the mission and vision of Colonial Heights Baptist Church.
  • Involvement in developing the congregations’ individual gifts and abilities in areas of vocals, instrumental, and creative arts.
  • Schedule special music and musicians for services and special programs.
  • Provide leadership in scheduling and promoting special music events and concerts.
  • Develop and administer an annual budget for the worship ministry in accordance with the financial policies of the church.
  • Work in conjunction with the IT/Sound Team to recommend updates and needed changes to the technical and sound ministry.
  • Verifying that the IT/Sound team has coverage with trained individuals for all services.
  • Serve as staff liaison and resource for other ministries (Children’s Worship, Youth Worship)
